NCompass Labs User Survey An example of a user survey that I helped develop while working for NCompass Labs.
Mystara3e Project Personas Although not a software project, I brought the concept of personas into the online community that is working to convert a campaign setting from an older version of the Dungeons and Dragons roleplaying game into a format consistent with the most recent release of the same game.

Undergraduate Thesis for Computer Engineering

User Interface Design and Evaluation of a Web-Based Teaching Tool for Engineering Experiments

(PDF Download)

From September 1991 to May 1997 I attended Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, BC, Canada and obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Computer (Electrical) Engineering from the School of Engineering Science (ENSC). All undergraduate students in the SFU ENSC program are required to complete a minimum of four industry internships and to produce an undergraduate thesis based on a faculty or industry sponsored project.

My undergraduate thesis, researched between June 1996 and May 1997, was focused on the user experience of a web site for the REMOTE project, a very early proof-of-concept web application designed to give engineering students in the ENSC robotics program real-time, remote access to a robotic arm which they could use to complete class assignments. My research began with the design of the project web site using an iterative design approach and continued with a three pronged usability study against the web site and application interface using the following usability methods: heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthrough and direct observation of users .

A detailed discussion of my approach, the results of the usability study and my analysis can be reviewed in my Thesis document (pdf format)
