  • Responsible for the design and coordination of internal and client-site usability evaluations for NCompass Resolution.

  • Responsible for the development of feature requirements specifications, user interaction specifications and UI test plans for NCompass Resolution[1], a collaborative client-server web site development software suite.
  • All requirements were developed by following usage centred design methodologies such as user task and goal analysis, low-fidelity paper prototyping (pen, paper and print-outs), medium-fidelity paper prototyping (Visio 5.0), and dynamic prototyping (HTML mock-up)
  • Responsible for the design and coordination of internal and client-site usability evaluations for NCompass Resolution.

[1]: NCompass Labs, Inc. was acquired by Microsoft Corporation in May 2001. This company’s main product was NCompass Resolution which was subsequently rebranded as Microsoft Content Management Server.

  • Design, development and documentation of an Automatic Testing Equipment (ATE) System.
  • The ATE System controlled radio testing equipment and environment control devices via a PC using GPIB, parallel port and serial port connections.
  • Software was a DOS executable developed using Borland 'C' 4.0.

  • Design, development and documentation of a Serial Communication interface simulator.
  • The software was developed using Borland 'C++' and Turbo Vision GUI class libraries.

  • Design and development of an application task to be included as part of the demonstration program for the AMX Real-Time Multitasking Kernel.
  • The software was programmed in 'C' and Assembly Language.

May. 1996 - Aug. 1996
Engineering 425: Electronic Sketch Pad
  • Designed and implemented a prototype for an "electronic sketch pad" with a student partner as part of a self-directed analog/digital design project course.
  • The prototype card used an Altera 7096LC84 FPGA to combine the output of pre-existing transparent touch screen technology (Dynapro) with the output of a custom-designed electronic stylus. The PC Bus was used to send the resulting output to a computer.
  • Digital design for the Altera FPGA was done using Altera's Max+Plus II Software.

Nov. 1995 - May. 1997
Engineering 499: SFU REMOTE Project
  • Engineering Undergraduate Thesis Project.
  • Project to design and implement a web site that allows students in an Engineering Course to do real experiments on a robotic arm from a remote location, using standard HTML, the JAVA programming language and a real-time video feed.
  • My role in the overall project and topic of my thesis is the design and usability of the actual web site and experiment interface.

Computing Science 391: The Serf Inc. GPIB Controller & Talker/Listener
  • Group project course involving the design and implementation of a full microcomputer system based on the HPC16003 chip.
  • The course also required full documentation, including a project proposal, design and functional specifications and a complete users manual.

Oct. 1992 - Jun. 1993
SFU Mobile Robotics Group "Cujo" Project
  • Extracurricular Group of undergraduate students designed a multi-purpose, robot platform that moved autonomously in a "dog-like" fashion.
  • The robot won a gold for technical excellence and a silver for its vision system at the 2nd BEAM International Robotics Olympics in Toronto.
